A woman who lived near the Cod Bay Lagoon by the side of the main road with her family and who lost her house and belongings due to the tsunami wave a year ago has not received any assistance from the State, writes K.D. Jayasekera, Daily News 150206, Trincomalee at http://www.dailynews.lk/

Despite sending four letters to the President in addition to meeting the Grama Niladari China Bay, Divisional Secretary Trincomalee Town and Gravets and District Secretary Trincomalee on several occasions, the appeal has fallen on deaf ears.

The victim G.A. Ramani had been living there for several years. Her house was located about 20 metres away from the lagoon. Though her house and all her belongings were damaged no officials visited her damaged dwelling and no assistance including rations were issued to her family. She lived with her second husband.

After much agitation, the Grama Niladari issued one tsunami food stamp but she was not given any dry rations for that stamp. The Grama Niladari took a bust photograph of her to arrange for the opening of an account at the People's Bank, Trincomalee, instead of opening the account in her name the GN has fraudulently entered the name of some other woman.

The victim Ramani has complained to the Special Crime Defection Branch about the fraudulent action of the GN but up to now no action has been instituted. She also has stated in her letter that her family was displaced during the period of conflict and stayed at the Galewela Welfare Centre. After the family was resettled they were paid an allowance totalling Rs. 6,000. Soon after she received the money, the same GN sent a man and demanded Rs. 2,000. Through fear she gave the money.

Ramani's second husband is a labourer and she expects assistance from the State.
