It said the President expressed his displeasure over the manner in which allocations had been made by the Authority for Southern development. He has stressed the importance of developing difficult and remote villages in all districts.

It was decided to choose the most difficult divisional secretariat divisions in the Southern Province and develop them on a zonal basis. The SDA will handle this task.

It was also decided to place the District Secretaries in charge of tsunami housing reconstruction. Pointing out that summoning divisional secretaries to Colombo for various seminars and discussions hampered their work in the South, the President said that steps will be taken to provide them with video conferencing units.

Ministers and Secretaries should visit the respective areas and check the progress of development projects, he said.

Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Chamal Rajapakse, Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Vijayalal de Silva, Advisor to the Finance Ministry Ronnie de Mel, SDA Chairman Chandima Kodikara and several other officials participated.
