NCCSL, Hilfswerk grants for tsunami affected SMEs PDF Print E-mail

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) in collaboration with the Hilfswerk, Austria has distributed the 5th disbursement of grants to tsunami affected SMEs and micro sector enterprises in the Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts, writes Irangika Range, Daily News 260606 at http://www.dailynews.lk/

The NCCSL launched the SME Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Project immediately after the Tsunami and these donations implement under it.

It has benefited over 100 small and micro sector enterprises to restart their business while over 500 employment opportunities have been generated.

NCCSL, Chairman Nirmalee Samaratunaga said with the aim of rehabilitating and re-establishing the livelihood of these devastated people, the NCCSL together with Hilfswerk has donated over Rs. 10 million worth of required plants, machinery, equipment and working capital during the last 17 months.

"We have been able to support many industries including pottery, garments, carpentry, coir industry, grinding mills, food processing, footwear, confectionery, vehicle repairs, welding works, construction materials and aluminium works," she said.

She said that the main objective of the programme is to uplift the devastated small sector business enterprises and facilitate them to recommence business in the rural areas in order to strengthen rural economic development.
