Lanka signs MoU with Maldives for housing project |

Sri Lanka and Maldives signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of 100 housing units in Hambantota and 60 houses in Galle district for the benefit of the tsunami victims, writes Daily News, Colombo 010706 at http://www.dailynews.lk/

The agreement was signed by the Regional Director of Saudi Charity Campaign Yousef Rahkeet Rahmah in the presence of Agricultural Development Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, Housing Minister Ferial Ashraff and Saudi Arabian Ambassador for Sri Lanka and Maldives Mohammed Mahmoud.
The project for constructing 1000 housing units for tsunami victims in Sri Lanka by the Saudi Charity Campaign of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia commenced with the signing of MoU to construct a city of 500 housing units in Ampara, which is named as King Abdullah Model City in the first stage.
The second stage of the above project for the construction of 160 housing units in the cities of Hambantota and Galle will be implemented. Moreover, the implementation of third stage will initiate soon with signing of MoU to construct 340 housing units in Trincomalee and Batticaloa.
The Agricultural Development Minister Chamal Rajapaksa and the Housing Minister Ferial Ashraff acknowledged their thanks and gratitude to his Majesty the King to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their continuous support towards Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan and Maldivian officials said that these benevolent projects would play positive role in easing the plights of victims of the disaster.
