Focus on national skills in complex emergencies |

This project implemented by the Italian National Institute of Health, funded by the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry, has the purpose of strengthening national skills on planning, managing, and coordinating emergencies in Sri Lanka.
"When the Tsunami hit Sri Lanka on December 26th, 2004 it highlighted the need to strengthen the country's capability in disaster preparedness and management of complex emergencies.
'Capacity Building Programme for the Management of Disasters and Complex Emergencies', is intended to support the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka and the National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS), on planning and carrying out a training programme on management of emergencies with particular focus on disaster preparedness, early warning and on managerial aspects related to emergencies," the statement said.
The project will see the initial training of 75 trainers, selected at national level from all districts.
In turn, these trainers will replicate the identified training contents to 660 middle level Health managers selected at divisional level.
