The "Ranjith Kodikara Land community housing project" was initiated by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society with financial and technical assistance from the Japanese Red Cross Society. The housing scheme includes water, sanitation facilities and an internal road network.

Every house is also connected to the electricity grid. The Japanese Red Cross are constructing an additional 259 houses on three other sites in Trincomalee district.

The Japanese Red Cross has been supporting the Sri Lanka Red Cross' work in Trincomalee District for over a year as part of their assistance to address the long term needs of those affected by the tsunami.

Following the tsunami they provided non-food relief items and supported the construction of over 100 temporary shelters.

Our contribution towards rebuilding Sri Lanka's damaged infrastructure extends beyond housing.
