The Government launched the Trincomalee Divisional Livelihood Development Plan (DLDP) to uplift living conditions of the tsunami-affected in Kuchchaveli, Muttur, Eachchilampattai, Kinniya and Town and Graverts of the Trincomalee District, writes Daily News, Trincomalee, 081106 at http://www.dailynews.lk/. The Reconstruction and Development Agency RADA, District/Divisional Administration of Trincomalee District and the International Labour Organisation ILO have identified over 284 local community based projects and sectoral projects in the tsunami affected divisions.
According to RADA Livelihood coordinator, Ranjith Abeyagunawardana these projects were identified with the direct involvement of communities, stakeholder and the local government.
RADA with ILO support conducted workshops and focal group discussions with all stakeholder and analyzed and updated information at district and national level. The special feature of all plans will be online worldwide access at dldp.rada.gov.lk/livelihood to all projects and selection facilities for financial assistance by those interested.
"We hope to obtain financial assistance to launch 286 livelihood development projects in these areas.
But there are 75 priority projects. It needs over Rs. 700 million, said ILO Chief Technical Advisor Doekle Wielinga after the launching ceremony of the DLDP in Trincomalee.
Wielinga said ILO provides technical assistance in a planning process contributing sustainable livelihood reconstruction and development that guarantees participation, transparency and efficient coordination of livelihood projects.
"There are 25 projects which related to social protection and another 134 projects would improve infrastructure of these five divisional area. "
