Irish Red Cross Society donates apartment complex for kalutara tsunami affected fisher folk PDF Print E-mail

An exclusive apartment complex for fisher folk in Kalutara under a post tsunami relief project funded by the Irish Red Cross Society was declared opened recently by Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary to the President with David Andrews D. Chairman of the Irish Red Cross Society and Jagath Abeysundara, Chairman, Sri Lanka Red Cross Society gracing the occasion, writes Daily News, 111106, Kalutara at http://www.dailynews.lk/.

The project initiated by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society had G.V.M. De Silva and Sons as contractor with Kahawita De Silva as architect. The project is planned to be completed in 3 stages and phase I envisages in overall developments costing Rs. 85 million.

Phase II involves the construction of a modern school for 400 students costing Rs. 54 million that's due to be completed in March 2007. Phase III will have a community center with a state-of-the-art health facility.

The apartment complex comprises of two bed roomed exclusive residencies on 550 square feet with all up-to-date conveniences.

It's the only residential scheme of its kind for fisher families as the apartment complex is located close to the sea making the livelihood of the fishermen living here more comfortable.
