President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday handed over cheques for Rs. 100,000 each to Chief Incumbents of 25 Viharastanas which provided refuge to internally displaced persons in the aftermath of the tsunami in 2004, writes Rohan Mathes, Daily News, Colombo 221206 at http://www.dailynews.lk/. Forwarded by Budhi Mulyawan 221206.
These funds are to be utilised to settle the light and water bills of the Viharastanas. Following the presentation of the cheques, President Rajapaksa said the presentation was made in true appreciation and gratitude for the yeoman services by the temples and other places of religious worship to those displaced after the tsunami. The President also expressed his satisfaction for the enhancement of computer literacy in the country to around 22 to 25 per cent from the previous rate of around two percent, thanks to the contribution of temples and other religious institutions in the Nenasela programme.
