The Government requested the public to observe two minutes silence from 9.25 to 9.27 a.m. on December 26 to honour all those who perished during the tsunami disaster two years ago, writes Daily News, Colombo 231206 at http://www.dailynews.lk/.

All motor vehicles, except ambulances on operational duty, are also expected to stop running during this period. Horns should not be operated. Places of worship belonging to all religions are expected to ring their bells from 9.25 a.m. to 9.27 a.m.

Temples, kovils, mosques and churches around the island have organised religious observances to mark the second anniversary of the tsunami. December 26 has also been designated as the National Security Day to raise public awareness on natural and man made disasters.

The national ceremony in this connection will be held on Tuesday morning, the Disaster management and Human Rights Ministry said.
