Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai organised a multi-faith religious observances to commemorate the second anniversary of the tsunami devastation on December 26, writes Daily News, India 281206 at http://www.dailynews.lk/2006/12/28/.Forwarded by Budhi Mulyawan 291206.

The commemoration started with observances of two minutes silence in memory of those who died in the tsunami disaster. Clergy representing Buddhist, Hindu, Muslims and Catholics blessed the souls of those who died in the tsunami.

Speaking at the commemorative event, Sri Lanka Deputy High Commissioner, P. M. Amza said, "the day the tsunami hit was among one of the bleakest days in modern history where an unprecedented devastation had hit many countries almost at the same time. In Sri Lanka 30,196 people recorded died, many of them are children and elderly.

Buddhist observances in Mahabodhi Centre in Egmore and Hindu observances in Kalikamah Temple, Parrys were also held.
