A high powered international delegation set up by the World Alliance of YMCAs (WAY) and Asia Pacific Alliance of YMCAs (APAY) to co-ordinate and support the Sri Lanka YMCAs tsunami relief programme will hold an international meeting on January 30 and 31 at the YMCA International Centre at Kurana, Katunayake, writes Daily News, Colombo 250107 at http://www.dailynews.lk/.

This meeting will review the progress of the tsunami relief activities and decide further assistance.

The group consists of delegates from US, UK, Australia, Malta, Singapore, Hong Kong and Germany YMCAs. Y-Care International UK/Ireland Director Chris Roles will chair the meeting.

Sri Lanka YMCA delegation is led by Tsunami Response Task Committee Chairman Eraj Wijesinghe and Ravi Algama, President of Sri Lanka YMCA. National General Secretary Chrishanthi Hettiaratchi will furnish reports and coordinate the meeting. These Global YMCAs have funded the construction of 208 tsunami houses and 7 community and 2 vocational centres in various parts of the island.

Several housing schemes are completed and other schemes are nearing completion.

The delegates will visit project sites and inspect the progress of new housing projects on January 27 and 29.

They will also participate at the opening of community/vocational/recreational centres and visit Matara, Dickwella, Galle and Payagala on February 2 to inspect the tsunami housing schemes.

The international partners will also discuss supporting several long term initiatives on livelyhood development for the families in some of the tsunami housing schemes, carrier development and vocational training at community/vocational training centres and development programme for youth and children.
