Japan-Lanka Friendship Village in Trincomalee PDF Print E-mail

The Japan Sri Lanka Friendship village constructed at a cost of Rs 400 million in Iqbal Nagar, Trincomalee will be handed over to tsunami victims in Trincomalee district shortly, writes Mohammed Naalir, Daily News, Trincomalee 300507 at http://www.dailynews.lk/.

The Iqbal Nagar tsunami housing scheme was constructed by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) with 236 houses. Financial assistance was provided by the Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This is one of the largest tsunami housing projects established in the Eastern province.The construction was competed within one year.

Each house in the scheme was constructed with two bed rooms, living room, lavatory, kitchen and all other basic facilities.

A Kovil and a mosque have been constructed in this scheme.

Arrangements have been made to provide electricity and pipe borne water facilities. Construction work on access roads too will be completed within a few days, NHDA sources added.
