HelpAge Sri Lanka opened its third cluster of houses built for tsunami victims in the South recently, writes Nadira Gunatilleke, Daily News 261007 at http://www.dailynews.lk/.

The cluster of houses consist of 25 houses built with assistance from HelpAge International, UK and Help the Aged at Ussagoda, Ambalantota.

Each house with an extent of 550 square feet consists of two bedrooms, living area, a kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet. Pipe borne water service and electricity have been provided to all 25 houses.

A device to preserve rain water is also introduced. Each home is gifted with furniture worth Rs. 75,000.

The houses are designed for the use of elders. They are convenient for elders using wheel chairs. A community centre is also included in the cluster of houses.

The most deserving recipient elders have been selected by a panel comprising officers of the Tsunami Unit of HelpAge Sri Lanka. This was done on the instructions of the Government Agent of Hambantota and in accordance with the tsunami affected elders' beneficiary list submitted by Divisional Secretary of Ambalantota.
