Speaking to Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf, Halonen said the work had empowered local companies and women.

She said Acehnese women would become a new force to ensure a continuation of development in the province, since donations from donor countries would eventually stop.

The president was accompanied by Indonesian State Minister for Women's Empowerment Meutia Farida Hatta Swasono, who said she planned her visit to the province to see the changes there herself.

Concluding her two-day stay in Aceh, Halonen visited Blang Oi and Lambung, two villages which were reconstructed from donor funds, including from Finland.

Development in the province was made possible following the signing of a peace agreement between Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement in Finland on Aug. 15, 2005.
