At least 58 people were killed by floods sweeping through southern Yemen after a massive tropical storm swept into the impoverished country, a senior police official said, writes Associated Press, The Observer, Sunday October 26 2008 at http://www.guardian.co.uk. Forwarded by Budhi Mulyawan 281008.
The death toll was expected to rise as scores of people are still missing in remote Hadramut province, and hundreds of families were homeless or trapped by rising waters, he added. More than 638 houses were demolished by the flash floods which began last Thursday. In the historic city of Shibam, a Unesco world heritage site, the towering 16th-century mudbrick buildings are collapsing from the downpour. Only registered users can write comments.
