The Tsunami Facility for Dutch Private Initiatives in Sri Lanka (TFDISL) founded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Netherlands Alumni Association of Lanka (NAAL) assisted by the Latin Community in Sri Lanka donated several sewing machines and bicycles to the tsunami affected recently, writes Sarath Malalasekera, Daily News 081205 at http://www.dailynews.lk/

The Latin Community in Sri Lanka obtained the funds for their projects in Sri Lanka through private donations from the Latin Community in Sri Lanka and through their friends and relatives abroad. The inhabitants of a small Spanish village named Aranda de Duero made a very large contribution for the projects in Sri Lanka. These funds were raised by conducting special fund-raising projects.
These projects were organised by Francisco Javier Alcalde Velasco, former inhabitant of Aranda and now part of the Latin Community in Sri Lanka. Francisco's wife Helen Geerdes also had assisted her husband to collect funds through her family members and colleagues in Holland to be distributed among the tsunami affected.
