Germany grants 15m Euro for reconstruction work in Batticaloa PDF Print E-mail

The Government of German Federal Republic has agreed to grant a gift of Euro 15 Million (approximately Rs.1.8 billion) for the reconstruction and rehabilitation activities of infrastructure facilities devastated by the tsunami, last year, writes Daily News 151205 at http://www.dailynews.lk/

The grant is expected to be utilized towards reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure facilities in the colonization schemes in the Batticaloa District both existing and initiating. A part of it will go to commence a new water supply scheme in Valachchenai.

The Memorandum of Cooperation in this regard was signed by Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Planning on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and by Thomas Hanker, Regional Director and Reinhard Delvo, Colombo Director of German Renaissance Bank on behalf of the Government of German Federal Republic on December 12.

Meanwhile, the Helmut Kohl Organization of Germany on behalf of the Government of German Federal Republic has agreed to construct a fully equipped new hospital in place of the Government Hospital, Maha Modera, Galle, devastated by the tsunami according to the Ministry of Health Care and Nutrition sources.

The new hospital estimated to cost Rs. 3,600 million will include a Wards Complex to accommodate 850 beds and will be furnished with all facilities on par with hospitals in Colombo.
